GROUNDED Modern throw quilt 52 by 64 inches
I used a combination of solids and prints and a simple overlapping rectangle design to create this contemporary throw quilt with midcentury design appeal. The patterns in the fabrics include aboriginal designs, graphic circles, lines and text, and diamonds made up of dots. I added solids in two shades of blue plus neutral solids in oyster, latte and shittake. The main colors are blue, gray, brown, sand, black and white – all set against a background of Kona cotton in Otter. The abstract, minimal design of overlapping rectangles and the dark palette give a sedate, mid-century feel to this quilt. A perfect addition to your contemporary home – living room, bedroom, patio or reading nook. Or hang it on the wall as a contemporary art piece with big graphic impact.
The reverse side has improv pieced sections bordered by solids in latte and gray. I stitched parallel lines across the width of the quilt, giving it an easy drape, crinkled appearance, and a lush, textured feel. I added detail stitching of concentric rectangles in the overlapping sections of the blocks. Unbleached cotton batting gives the quilt lightweight warmth. The binding in Otter was attached securely with two rounds of machine stitching to guarantee a lifetime of durability. All fabrics and batting are premium 100% cotton.
Care: Machine wash in cold water. Tumble dry, low heat; or air dry flat if you prefer. The quilt has been machine washed and dried after construction, to shrink it to its final dimensions.
